Bexhill on Sea Roaring 20’s. 23rd July 2016

Hastings & Rother RAYNET Group Roaring 20’s event 23/7/2016

Saturday the 23rd at Bexhill, around the De La Warr area, HRRG supplied communications for the event.  The area covered this year was far larger than last year and there were far more people visiting the area. Marshall’s were employed by the organisers but were not involved with H&RR.

Control was situated in one of the twin towers on the sea side of The De La Warr and proved to be the right location as it was central to all the areas, although rather breezy!

H&RR members worked in pairs which enabled the whole of the area to be covered easily.

The area covered this year by H&RRG was from the west along West Parade all the way along the Marina.

The day was very hot and there were very few incidents. With a large number of the public in attendance the organisers did a good job of making sure people were well looked after and kept safe.

A procession took part that went around the town with a stop At Devonshire road where a 1920’s prohibition re-enactment took place with dressed up police, in 20’s uniforms and bank robber dressed in their usual type of 20’s clothes.

During the day many events took place including the attempt to take back the record of most dancers dancing the Charleston.  See the video http://bexhillroaring20s.org.uk/  Unfortunately they were a few short and did not get the record, but they plan to try and break the record in 2018.

There was a fly pass of the Memorial Spitfire and Hurricane but no Lancaster. This was quite a show and was well received by the public.

Everybody enjoyed themselves and it proved to be a very worthwhile day for all concerned.

Thanks to Mike M0OFC, Martin M0MJU, Steve M0SSR, Antony G4CUS, Linda, Dave G7LEL, Chris 2E0EOE and Steve 2E0GHX for taking part in the event and who enjoyed themselves while being on duty.

Our thanks also go to the organisers for asking HRRG to participate at this event.
